Allahabad High Court RO/ARO Typing Test Interface & Software Rules

The Allahabad High Court (AHC) conducts the Review Officer (RO) and Assistant Review Officer (ARO) exams, which include a highly scoring Computer Knowledge Test (Typing Test). Unlike other exams where typing is merely qualifying in nature, the AHC RO/ARO typing test carries 50 marks and is directly added to your final merit.

Scoring a perfect 50 out of 50 is entirely possible if you understand the unique interface and specific rules of the AHC typing software.

1. The "Judgement Format" Challenge

Unlike standard story-based passages used in SSC or UP Police, the AHC RO/ARO typing test provides a Judgement Format passage. This means you will be typing legal vocabulary, which heavily includes:

  • Complex legal terms (e.g., jurisdiction, affidavit, writ petition, respondent).
  • Frequent use of numbers, dates, and sections (e.g., Section 144 CrPC, Article 226, 19th October 2023).
  • Special characters and heavy punctuation including brackets (), hyphens -, and quotes "".

If you only practice on simple stories, the sudden influx of numbers and special characters will drastically drop your speed during the actual exam.

"In AHC RO/ARO, the typing test is a game-changer. Since it carries 50 marks, every single error directly impacts your final merit position."

2. Typing Interface & Evaluation

The National Testing Agency (NTA) usually conducts this exam, and the interface is slightly different from standard software:

  • Highlighting: Generally, the word you are typing is highlighted, making it easier to keep track.
  • Backspace: Backspace is typically allowed, meaning you can correct your mistakes before submitting. However, excessive use will cost you valuable time.
  • Auto-scroll: The passage usually auto-scrolls, but it's always safe to practice manual scrolling just in case the NTA interface behaves differently on exam day.

3. How to Score Full 50 Marks

The minimum qualifying mark is 25 out of 50. However, to secure your selection, you should aim for 48-50 marks. The formula generally evaluates your Net WPM and accuracy.

To maximize your score:

  • Do not skip lines. Skipping a line will result in massive deductions.
  • Type exactly what is written. If a word is misspelled in the source text, type the misspelled word. Do not auto-correct it yourself.
  • Keep an eye on capitalization. Legal documents have specific noun capitalizations (e.g., The High Court of Judicature).

4. Practice Strategy

To prepare effectively, you must practice exclusively on legal passages. On CareerBook, we offer specialized practice sets that mimic the AHC RO/ARO judgement formats. By practicing these sets, you will train your fingers to reach for the number row and symbol keys smoothly without breaking your rhythm.
